Personality disorder in the teenager can be, and often is expressed as social conduct disorder.

According to the Diagnostic Statistics Manual of Mental disorders (DSM-IV) social conduct disorder is defined as being serious misbehavior against people, animals and property.

This teen personality disorder is a persistent pattern of misbehavior against the basic rights of other people and a flagrant disregard of the values and rules of normal society and can be seen as—

Misconduct and Aggression to People and Animals.

n  The teen is often involved in the bullying, intimidation or showing threatening behavior to other people or animals.

n  He/she (more often he!!) will frequently cause physical fights against others using weapons of violence, like bricks, broken bottles knives or guns.

n  Will show and indulge in acts of cruel physical violence against animals.

n  The teen will become involved in stealing from others via such methods as purse snatching, mugging or extortion, even armed robbery is not unknown.

n  Enforced sexual activity like rape is often a result of the teens personality disorder problem

On many occasions as can be seen the personality disorder is bordering on criminal behavior and often there is only a fine line between the two types of behavior.

Other serious expressions of social misbehavior or misconduct can include acts of Arson to property with the intent of serious damage being caused. House burglary, Car stealing, gaining money under false pretenses, are another manifestation of teen personality disorder.

Aspects of Teen Personality Disorder.

According to the diagnosis manual, the personality disorder occurs usually in late childhood and early adolescence, and is much more common in teenage boys than girls.

n  Teens suffering from personality seem to be unable to understand the intentions of others properly, and have little ability to ‘read’ other people.

n  Often the teen will feel that they are being ridiculed and threatened by others, when in reality there is no such intent.

n  If such feelings do occur the teen will react aggressively towards the person supposedly making the threat, the aggression can be extremely violent with very little remorse or feelings shown towards the other person.

n  Personal frustration is not tolerated at all.

n  There will be total disregard for personal safety shown, and there is a strong tendency to behave in a reckless foolhardy manner.

Any teenager suffering from this kind of anti-social, personality disorder will often threaten suicide, and parents of the teen should treat such threats very seriously and seek immediate medical help for the affected person.
